Man out on bail after car-wash death

A Las Vegas chiropractor is free on $100,000 bond after being arrested on homicide charges in the death of a Summerlin man at a neighborhood car wash.

Stephen B. Shaw, 36, faces one charge of second degree murder and one count of involuntary manslaughter in the death of 60-year-old Lawrence A. Weiss. The murder charge carries a maximum penalty of 25 years to life in prison. The involuntary manslaughter charge carries a penalty of one to six years in prison.

Weiss died April 13 at University Medical Center of head trauma, two days after an incident at Fabulous Freddy's Car Wash at Fort Apache Road and Charleston Boulevard. police say he was pushed from behind by Shaw.

Weiss, who recently moved to Summerlin, fell and struck his head on a metal rack holding propane tanks.

Police said Shaw came to the car wash after a phone call from his wife, Raquel, who claimed she and Weiss had exchanged words. Raquel Shaw told police Weiss had pulled open the door of her car and yelled at her.

Friends of Weiss have disputed that account, saying such behavior would have been out of character for the recently retired music business executive.
