The state Department of Revenue on Wednesday selected GTECH Corp., the world's largest online lottery operator, to run a huge computer system that is supposed to help the state control revenue from its nascent slot-machine industry. Department officials said they plan to negotiate a five-year contract with GTECH, of West Greenwich, R.I., over the next two to three months. The estimated cost of the contract will not exceed $6.3 million annually, and will pay GTECH a fraction of whatever is gambled, department officials said.
