Boy arrested in cabbie's stabbing

A 17-year-old boy was arrested in connection with the stabbing and robbery of a cabdriver Tuesday morning, Metro Police said.

The attack occurred about 8 a.m. The boy asked the Yellow Cab driver to take him and two 19-year-old women from Silverado Ranch Road and Maryland Parkway to the 8000 block of Morris Street, near Mountain Vista Street and Hacienda Avenue.

When they arrived, the boy cut the driver Sunny S. Kim's neck and stabbed him several times, police said. Investigator Rob Stewart of the Nevada Taxicab Authority said Kim was also stabbed in the back and head.

Kim managed to call 911 before he was taken to the hospital, where he was in critical condition. His injuries do not appear to be life-threatening, Stewart said.

A short time later the three suspects were apprehended. The two 19-year-old women were released because they apparently had no knowledge that the attack was going to take place, Lt. John Alamshaw said.

A bag of money was stolen from Kim's cab.

The 17-year-old was booked as a juvenile for robbery with a deadly weapon and attempted murder with a deadly weapon. His name was not released.

Gang suspects pleading guilty

Two Rolling 60s gang members changed their pleas Tuesday to guilty of federal charges of conspiring to engage in racketeering.

The pleas of Jordan Crane, 27, and Torres Hymon, 33, brings the total number of defendants that have pleaded guilty in the case to nine.

A total of 22 alleged Rolling 60s gang members were indicted on racketeering charges in connection with murders, drug dealing and shootings in Las Vegas and North Las Vegas.

Of the nine who have pleaded guilty, six have been sentenced, and Crane, Hymon and another defendant are scheduled to be sentenced later this year.

The remaining defendants are facing a trial, but a date has not yet been set as attorneys work through the discovery process.

Predator aircraft gets green light

The heavily used Predator remote-piloted aircraft reached a milestone Tuesday as it was officially passed out of the testing phase and into the initial operation stage by the Pentagon.

The $4 million aircraft, based at Indian Springs Auxiliary Airfield, about 45 miles northwest of Nellis Air Force Base, has been tested under fire in Afghanistan and Iraq, and continues to provide reconnaissance and combat support.

Lt. Gen. William Fraser III, Air Combat Command's vice commander, officially announced the completion of testing on the MQ-1 after the aircraft completed 11 requirements including issues pertaining to supportability, training and maintainability.

Predators are remotely flown in Iraq and Afghanistan daily by pilots at Nellis and Indian Springs. The Air Force has three Predator squadrons -- the 15th and 17th, and a training squadron, the 11th. All three are based at Indian Springs.

Man arrested in December killing

Metro Police arrested a 19-year-old man Tuesday in connection with the killing of a 21-year-old man in the 4700 block of East Owens Avenue in December.

Police obtained an arrest warrant for Emmanuel Espinoza Hernandez and took him into custody at his mother's house in the 1500 block of North 22nd Street. The teen is charged with murder.

Police alleged he shot and killed Jose Gonzalez as Gonzalez sat in his truck parked in front of his apartment on Dec. 22, Sgt. Ken Hefner said. The slaying is believed to be connected to drugs, police said.

Man in 311 Boyz case is arrested

An alleged member of the 311 Boyz who was punished in connection with a rock attack that left a boy disfigured was arrested early Saturday on a charge of methamphetamine possession, Metro Police said.

Dominic Harriman, 21, was pulled over about 1 a.m. in the area of Charleston Boulevard and Buffalo Drive for a traffic violation, Sgt. Chris Jones, police spokesman, said.

Police discovered he had several traffic warrants and during a subsequent search officers found methamphetamine, Jones said.

Harriman pleaded guilty in August 2004 to conspiracy to commit coercion in connection with the 2003 attack on Tanner Hansen. He was ordered to pay a $2,000 fine but was not placed on probation, his attorney Pete Christiansen said this morning.

"I think it's a separate incident and has nothing to do with the 311 Boyz," Christiansen said.

Harriman is scheduled to appear in Justice Court March 14 for the four traffic warrants. A hearing for the drug charge has not yet been scheduled.
