The 18-year-old Coronado High School senior who was shot along with his mother in their Green Valley Ranch home six weeks ago was taken off life support and died Monday, authorities said.
Christian Davis' mother, Jennifer Davis, 46, was killed in the May 4 attack. Her 17-year-old daughter was not shot but was struck several times by the attacker and was hospitalized briefly.
Christian Davis had been at University Medical Center since the attack and had reportedly been paralyzed. He died Monday, a nursing supervisor and the coroner's office confirmed.
The Coronado High School senior, who was 6 foot 3 inches tall and an avid basketball player, had been set to graduate June 15. Friends and neighbors said he was planning to enlist in the Air Force.
"We put out giant sheets of paper for people to write 'get well' messages and the kids just filled them up," Coronado Principal Monte Bay said. "It was obvious that he had a lot of friends and was very well-liked."
Bay said school officials tried to keep abreast of Davis' condition and that students and staff frequently asked for updates.
"We haven't been getting much information and we certainly understand why," Bay said. "Our thoughts and sympathies go out to his family."
At Coronado's graduation last week Davis' name was called out, as his family had requested, Bay said. While Davis missed the final month of classes his grades were high enough that he was still in good standing to graduate, Bay said.
Bay, who has been promoted to assistant superintendent for the southeast region, said his successor, current Coronado Assistant Principal Lee Koelliker, will likely organize a memorial remembrance for Davis when classes resume in August.
Henderson Police have not made any arrests in connection with the now-double homicide.
"They are still actively investigating," police spokesman Keith Paul said.
Police said a suspect was seen running from the home on Camelback Ridge Avenue near Paseo Verde Parkway after the shooting.
He is described as of medium height and build, in his late teens or early 20s, and possibly black or Hispanic. He wore all black clothing and held up his baggy pants as he ran, police said.
The man was seen leaving in a late 1980s red two-door hatchback car, police said.
Police have said the Davis home was not a random target. They released no further information about any link between the suspect and family.
Jennifer Davis had gone through a difficult divorce and had two jobs -- including a position administrative assistant for the Clark County Health District's information technology department -- to support her family, neighbors said after the attack, friends and neighbors said.
There is a $10,000 reward being offered to solve the case.
Anyone with information about the suspect can call Crime Stoppers at 385-5555 or Henderson Police at 267-5000.
