Chambers' sound to be improved

Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman's weekly Thursday press conferences will be moving up to his office for a couple of weeks while the audio system in the City Council Chambers gets a $50,000 upgrade.

The press conferences held in Council Chambers are broadcast on the city's cable television station KCLV Channel 2. But the mayor's office does not have the cameras and other television equipment found in Council Chambers, and so the press conferences held in his office will not be broadcast.

The audio system in the Council Chambers is about 10 years old, and has at times created problems, such as audio feedback, during meetings, city spokesman David Riggleman said.

The $50,000 will pay for new speakers, some new microphones, and electronic equipment, plus the installation of the new equipment, Riggleman said.

He said the work is expected to be done in time for the City Council's next meeting on July 6.
