LV arrest made in Seattle woman’s death

A man wanted for killing a former Franciscan nun in Seattle was arrested in Las Vegas Wednesday by the Nevada Fugitive Investigative Strike Team, authorities said.

Police in Seattle issued a arrest warrant accusing Stephen McCandles Banks, 43, of killing Rose James, 79, in her home with a fireplace poker, Acting U.S. Marshal for Nevada Fidencio Rivera said.

The motive for James' death is believed to be the theft of more than $35,000 cash that James kept in her home. Banks was James' longtime handyman, authorities said.

Banks was found working in Las Vegas as a safety monitor for a local charity, Rivera said. He is being held in the Clark County Detention Center on $2 million bail.
