Recreation centers plan food program
The Clark County Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor the state Department of Education and Health's Summer Food Service Program.
A free breakfast and lunch will be served to all children enrolled in the RecTrek programs weekdays from Monday to Aug. 26.
Acceptance and participation requirements for the program and all activities are the same for all regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, gender or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service. Below please find the site names, addresses, and telephone numbers, who to contact for additional information, which meals will be served, and all the times (starting and ending) and dates meals will be served.
These recreation centers are participating in the breakfast program:
Cambridge Recreation Center, 3930 Cambridge St., 455-7169: Breakfast: 9-10 a.m. Lunch: noon-1 p.m.
Paradise Recreation Center, 4775 McLeod, 455-7513: Breakfast: 9-10 a.m. Lunch noon-1 p.m.
Sunrise Recreation Center, 2240 Linn Lane, 455-7600: Breakfast: 8-9 a.m. Lunch 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Parkdale Community Center, 3200 Ferndale St., 455-7517: Breakfast: 8:30-9:30 a.m. Lunch: 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Whitney Recreation Center, 5712 E. Missouri St., 455-7576: Breakfast: not available. Lunch: noon-1 p.m.
Walnut Recreation Center, 3075 N. Walnut Road, 455-8402. Breakfast: 8-9 a.m. Lunch: 11 a.m.-noon.
Summer camp set for preschoolers
Winchester Cultural Center, 3130 S. McLeod Drive, is offering a one day a week summer camp for preschoolers age 3 to 5, 10 a.m.-noon Wednesdays beginning Wednesday and continuing for 11 weeks.
Children must be toilet trained to participate.
Activities include arts and crafts, stories, songs, games and socializing. Children will participate in water play outside, so swimsuits and towels are requested. Parents are asked to apply sun block before bringing children to class.
The class is designed to provide socializing experience for little ones, to prepare them for preschool in the fall.
Cost is $68 for the eleven-week session. Call 455-7340.
A celebration in recognition of Flag Day
will take place from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Galleria at Sunset, 1300 Sunset Road, Henderson. Leading up to the celebration, shoppers are encouraged to sign a pledge to fly the American flag. Participants will receive free stick flags and an "I Love America" yard stake.
The North Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce
will hold its second Blue Print for Success workshop from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Chamber conference room, 3345 W. Craig Road, Suite B. The workshop titled "Effective Ways to Create Free Publicity and PR" will include panelists Mark Neeman, Andy Vierra and Bruce Spotleson from Greenspun Media Group.
