Police: Child’s shooting random

Metro Police said this morning that the drive-by shooting on Interstate 15 that injured a 4-year-old girl Sunday was most likely a random act.

Police have not been able to find a motive for the shooting. No arrests have been made.

The last three letters on the vehicle's Minnesota license plate are believed to be 797, police said, and the vehicle is likely to be a mid-1990s Chevrolet Suburban painted fire engine red with dark tinted windows.

The shooting happened on the freeway near the Charleston Boulevard exit. Police said the bullet went through the girl's arm, chest and exited her side. She is being treated at Sunrise Hospital and is expected to recover.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 229-5634.
