Alleged 311 Boyz gang member sentenced for parole violation
Tuesday, July 19, 2005 | 10:52 a.m.
An alleged member of the 311 Boyz gang this morning was sentenced to 10 months in jail for violating the terms of his probation.
Dominic Harriman, who in May had been sentenced to probation and inpatient drug treatment, recently tested positive for marijuana use, authorities said.
That prompted District Judge Michael Cherry to order Harriman to serve 10 months in the Clark County Detention Center with credit for a 100 days for time served this morning.
Harriman was enrolled at the inpatient treatment at a program called Choices in Recovery in Vista, Calif, but left the facility because it was "a bad environment," his lawyer, Richard Schonfeld, said.
Schonfeld said he notified the court of Harriman's decision to leave the California program and enlist in a different facility, which was approved by Cherry.
The defense attorney said after reporting to his probation officer in Clark County, however, Harriman tested positive for marijuana.
Harriman said nothing during his hearing this morning.
In August 2004 Cherry had fined Harriman $2,000, but did not place Harriman on probation, for the charge of conspiracy to commit burglary he pleaded guilty to in connection with the rock attack that left 18-year-old Stephen Tanner Hansen's face crushed in July 2003.
At that time, Cherry ordered Harriman to stay out of trouble for at least a year.
Police arrested Harriman twice in February. In two separate incidents, Harriman was allegedly found with drugs in his possession. He also faces domestic battery charges from a incident with his girlfriend in Henderson.
Harriman was arrested on Feb. 23 in Pahrump and charged with possessing stolen property and drugs, according to police. Harriman, who also allegedly had a handgun with him when he was arrested. The Pahrump charges have subsequently been dismissed.
On Feb. 28 Metro Police pulled Harriman over about 1 a.m. in the area of Charleston Boulevard and Buffalo Drive for a traffic violation. When they ran a check on him, they found he had four traffic warrants, according to the police report. Then the officers allegedly found methamphetamine in Harriman's possession.
Schonfeld said no charges have been filed against Harriman as of this morning in Pahrump, and Harriman is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Thursday in Las Vegas Justice Court on his arrest for possession of a controlled substance.
