Letter: Rolling along after ruling on eminent domain

The recent 5-4 Supreme Court decision in Kelo v. New London found that local governments can use eminent domain and condemnation to seize land and property for commercial purposes, meaning that you could, in theory, lose your house and land for construction of a new parking lot.

It may surprise you to learn that not everyone can lose their house this way. There is a very lucky segment of our society who are immune to such seizures. They are those whose houses have wheels attached to them.

Residents of mobile home parks and communities can still lose their land, but they get to keep their houses, and, because such are not "permanent fixtures," they just roll them out of the way of the bulldozers.

Expect to see an increase in mobile home sales as a result of the court's ruling.
