Separate trials eyed in killing
Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005 | 9:44 a.m.
A judge will determine next week whether to hold separate trials for two people accused of fatally stabbing and robbing a 33-year-old woman at a Sav-on drugstore in August 2003.
District Judge Stewart Bell said in court Tuesday he needed to know if prosecutors intended to use during the trial a confession made by James Ray Walker to police that implicates Myrdus Archie.
The trial is scheduled March 21.
Walker, 47, and 51-year-old Archie, both of Las Vegas, were charged with murder with a deadly weapon and robbery in connection with the death of Christine M. Anziano of Las Vegas.
Bell said prosecutors essentially had two options. He said they could decide not to use Walker's confession and have one trial, or use the confession and have the case severed.
