Poster, essay contest set for Black History
Courage Unlimited, a nonprofit health organization, in collaboration with Clark County Department of Parks and Community Services, is presenting a Black History Month essay and poster contest.
Entitled "Healthy Teen: Mission Possible," the contest runs through Feb. 7 for middle school teenagers, ages 12-15, to promote self-esteem and healthier behaviors.
The contest encourages teens to write or draw about any person in black history and how that black Americans would have addressed or dealt with the issue of HIV/AIDS and/or cancer.
Materials can be picked up noon-4 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays at Courage Unlimited's outreach office, 3900 Cambridge St., Room 106. Call 453-3855 or 455-7385.
The Martin Luther King Jr. Parade
will begin 10 a.m. Saturday at Fourth Street and Coolidge Avenue and run to Fremont Street. For further information contact the Department of Public Works at 229-6276.
