A man was arrested Monday for allegedly committing a killing that he reported to police, Metro Police said.
Russell James Nakatsuka, 56, of Las Vegas went to Metro's South Central Area Command about 2 p.m. Monday and said he wanted to report a homicide, police said.
Detectives interviewed Nakatsuka and then went to an apartment on 21st Street just north of Fremont Street, where they found the body of a Hawaiian woman in her mid-50s.
The woman, whose identity is being withheld until relatives have been notified of her death, appeared to have died of gunshot wounds several days earlier in the apartment she had shared with Nakatsuka, police said.
Police said that Nakatsuka drove to the station in the dead woman's car, and detectives found an unregistered handgun in a satchel he carried into the station. Anyone with additional information about the case can 229-3521.
