Letter: More fiscal tricks from president
Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005 | 9:28 a.m.
President Bush and those who speak for the White House have said that Social Security reform is at the top of the Bush administration's priority list. They say the program is facing a crisis and that they plan to fix it with a grand scheme.
According to Mark Shields, of the CNN talk show "Capital Gang," however, the Bush administration has already appropriated, for purposes other than what the Social Security Trust Fund was to be used for, some $635 billion.
Now President Bush wants to push the national debt up by borrowing an additional $2 trillion to privatize the Social Security system. Is this robbing Peter to pay Paul, or is it another sleight-of-hand trick by the Bush administration?
