Mesquite, Boulder City seek separate seats on agency

Officials from Mesquite and Boulder City lobbied the Assembly Government Affairs Committee Thursday for their own seats on the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

The two towns share a seat now on the board of directors but officials from both said they are becoming large enough tourism lures that they need their own votes.

Mesquite officials said they are molding their town into a resort destination, especially focusing on golf. Boulder City officials said people come to their town for recreation, including a growing market of people who travel there to take pictures of landscape and wildlife.

State Sen. Warren Hardy, R-Las Vegas, has introduced a bill request that would create another full-time member on the authority's board.
