Ex-investor relations manager accused of insider trading

The former chief of investor relations at Cox Communications Inc., the third-largest U.S. cable television producer, was accused by U.S. regulators of insider trading.

Frank R.V. Loomans made trades on options in Cox securities in 2000 and 2001 before the company announced its second-quarter earnings, the Securities and Exchange Commission alleged in a lawsuit filed Thursday in Atlanta federal court.

Loomans, who has since resigned, was "intimately involved" in the preparation of the reports, the lawsuit said.

Neither Loomans's attorney nor a Cox spokeswoman could be reached for comment.

The Cox family took Atlanta-based Cox private in December.
