Gibbons set for Homeland Security panel

Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005 | 9:46 a.m.

WASHINGTON -- Rep. Jim Gibbons, R-Nev., was appointed to serve on the new permanent Homeland Security Committee in the House on Wednesday.

The Committee on Homeland Security has primary jurisdiction over government counterterrorism policy and is the principal legislative and oversight committee to the Department of Homeland Security.

Last year Congress elevated the Homeland Security Committee to permanent status.

Gibbons, who co-sponsored legislation creating the Department of Homeland Security, said he was "proud of the work" the House has accomplished.
