Gang member sentenced in crack cocaine sales

An associate of the Rolling 60s Crips street gang was sentenced to nearly five years in prison Tuesday after pleading guilty to selling crack cocaine for the group.

Todd Davis, 31, was sentenced to 51 months in prison and ordered to participate in drug rehabilitation programs by U.S. District Court Judge Larry Hicks.

Hicks said that of all of the Rolling 60s gang members and associates that he has sentenced, Davis appeared to have the most minimal role. Hicks said there was no evidence to link him to the killings and other violent crimes gang members are charged with.

Davis, whose family was in the courtroom at the George Federal Building for the sentencing, said he was sorry for what he had done.

"I'd like to apologize to my family, my children and the community for my actions, because I realize I'm not just hurting myself, but I'm also hurting others," Davis said.

Davis was also ordered to serve five years of supervised release following his prison term. Davis pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit crimes in aid of racketeering in June 2004.

Davis is one of 22 defendants named in a 88-count federal indictment, and is the fifth defendant to have been sentenced in the case. Two other defendants have pleaded guilty, but have yet to be sentenced.

The remaining defendants are facing a trial, but a date has not yet been set as attorneys work through the discovery process.
