Letter: Fight war on terror over there

WEEKEND EDITION

August 20-21, 2005

This is in response to the final paragraph of Sandra Baker's Aug. 10 letter. She wrote: "Bush likes to say things like 'Bring 'em on' and 'fight them over there so we don't have to fight them here.' I submit to you a dead troop is just as dead in the streets of Baghdad as he would be in New Jersey."

I interpret this to mean that she would rather our troops be killed in New Jersey or elsewhere in America while fighting terror, and not in Iraq. How about her asking the relatives of the fallen troops if they share that view, especially the relatives who live in New York City, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C., the areas most victimized by the 9/11 terrorists.

I would bet that 99 out of 100 Americans would say they would much rather the war against terror be fought in Iraq than on any street in the USA.
