Proposed political party puts on happy face

SUN CAPITAL BUREAU
CARSON CITY -- A group that wants government "to become one big huge happy face" has filed papers with the secretary of state's office to start a political party.
Called the Evolving Minds Party, it says the government's main function is to make everyone happy and pleasant.
Its officers are Mahgum E. Thorson of Phoenix and Lori J. Akers of Orange, Calif., whose noble but unreachable goal is to have everybody with a doctorate, a medical degree or a law degree.
To qualify as a political party, the founders must gather the signatures of 7,914 registered voters. And a person who wants to be a candidate of the party must have 250 signatures of voters for a statewide office and 100 names for a local government office.
Its platform calls for turning jails and prisons into maximum security universities or mental health centers; returning land to the Indians; and providing tax incentives and subsidies to develop such things as a flying car, flying wheelchair, flying broom like the witches use in the movies and a flying backpack for children.
