Guys & Dolls’ opens

It's a familiar story that has graced the stages of Broadway, London's West End and community theater companies for more than 50 years.

Nathan Detroit, a gambler who runs an illegal floating craps game in New York, needs a location to run his next game. To get the site, Detroit needs to find some money by winning a bet with his partner-in-crime, Sky Masterson.

And that's how the musical tale based on love, gambling, the love of gambling and the travails of love, begins.

Bringing its 30th season to a close, Super Summer Theatre will present "Guys & Dolls," which opened Friday at Super Summer Theatre at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park.

The show runs Wednesdays through Saturdays (through Aug. 27) and is presented by Jade Productions.

Based on the Damon Runyon's short story, "The Idyll of Miss Sarah Brown," "Guys and Dolls" debuted on Broadway in 1950 with such catchy songs as "Luck Be a Lady" and "A Bushel and a Peck."

The storyline revolves around the the dashing Masterson's challenge of getting Sarah Brown, a sister at Save A Soul Mission, to have dinner with him in Havana. But Brown isn't fond of gamblers and Masterson's pursuit is complicated.

Further confusion ensues when Detroit's fiancee of 14 years Miss Adelaide mistakenly assumes that Detroit is about to finally marry her.

Spring Mountain Ranch State Park is 5 miles past Red Rock Visitors Center on State Route 159 (15 miles west of Las Vegas when taking Charleston Boulevard from I-215).
