KidsDay events set for Friday
Residents are invited to spend meaningful time with their kids during special barbecue events hosted by Boys and Girls Clubs of Las Vegas. In addition to food and games, Baskin-Robbins will be serving ice cream to attendees.
National KidsDay celebrations will be held Friday at the following locations and times:
Boys and Girls Clubs of Las Vegas, Nevada's leading youth development organization with a primary focus on young people from disadvantage backgrounds, has joined a national effort to establish National KidsDay as an "official day" on the nation's calendar. The effort is backed by research showing that millions of Americans recognize the link between spending "meaningful time" with theirs kids and the tough issues facing youth, but say they don't have the time, skills, or resources to do as much for their children as they feel they should.

Magic Mountain trip offered
A Magic Mountain Trip for all ages is scheduled for 5 a.m. on Aug. 13. The trip is a collaboration between Cadwallader and Lied Community Schools. Children 16 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

Kindergarten prep workshop set
A Kindergarten Preparation Workshop for ages 4-6 will be from 1-3 p.m. Saturday at Johnson Community School, 340 Villa Monterey. Children will receive supplies for school, make a folder, tour the school and talk about what to expect on the first day of school. Cost is $15. Call 229-6175.
Driving program offered for seniors
AARP 55 Alive/Mature Driving Program will be offered to seniors 5-9 p.m. Aug. 15 and 16 at the Las Vegas Senior Center, 451 E. Bonanza Road, 229-6454 and 1-5 p.m. Aug. 17 and 24 at the Las Vegas Senior Center, 451 E. Bonanza Road, 229-6454.
Cost is $10. Pre-registration is required. Must attend both sessions. Call 257-9555 to register. Nevada law allows for a discount on auto insurance premium when course is successfully completed.
