Letter: Small, residential site is not a good fit for bus station
Friday, April 22, 2005 | 9:25 a.m.
This is in reply to the March 1 column by Susan Snyder. I am one of those terrible people who fought against the bus station proposed for Henderson by the Regional Transportation Commission. We all agree that something of this sort is needed but this site is not the place for it. I doubt very much that Ms. Snyder ever attended any of the many meetings that we held to hear the pros and cons about this proposal before she expressed her opinion.
The piece of property they would have put it on is too small and too close to our homes. Also, the buses would have to exit on an already busy street that is the only entrance and exit for three complexes and the main exit for a market and other stores.
After much debate and thought, our elected officials on the Henderson City Council agreed with us. We all hope this project will go through, but at a more suitable location. In the meantime do not condemn us for trying to preserve our property values and our right to clean air and some quiet.
