Letter: President, others sincerely believed Iraq had WMD
Monday, April 11, 2005 | 9:18 a.m.
Sondra Cosgrove's April 1 letter was interesting but inaccurate. She claimed that President Bush lied to Congress in order to take us to war. No matter how often this lie is repeated, it will never become the truth. Once again I will say (hopefully for the last time) that at that time every intelligence service in every responsible country in the world, including France, believed incorrectly that Iraq still possessed weapons of mass destruction. President Bush gave Congress the best information he had at hand. He never lied about WMD.
Cosgrove should also note: It is the murdering terrorist thugs who are killing innocent people in Iraq and around the world, and we are not blithely watching it happen, as she stated. Our soldiers, sailors, Marines and airmen are in Iraq, Afghanistan and many other places to help people attain the peace, freedom and democracy they want and the world deserves.
The faster and more efficiently we eliminate the terrorist thugs, the sooner the world will be more peaceful and democratic.
