Forecasters predict warmer temperatures

After a windy weekend, the Las Vegas Valley is rebounding toward a warmer scenario for this week, though it will be breezy again mid-week, National Weather Service forecasters said.

A storm system that brought snow to Reno and Denver was responsible for the winds, lower daytime temperatures and rain showers that brushed the valley until Sunday afternoon.

The high temperature on Sunday was 71 degrees after reaching only 66 degrees on Saturday, weather service meteorologist Brian Fuis said.

The mercury is expected to keep rising today, reaching 76 degrees, forecasters predict. The high on Tuesday is expected to reach 83 degrees.

The lower weekend temperatures followed the warmest day of the year so far when the valley registered 85 degrees on Thursday, Fuis said.

The valley has received 0.03 of an inch of rain this month after showers overnight on Friday and Saturday, Fuis said.

No more rain is expected this week as daytime temperatures will stay in the mid 70s to lower 80s, Fuis said.

The only other warm day recorded so far this year was 83 degrees on March 12.

Meanwhile the snowstorms roughly 750 miles away that have cancelled scores of flights at Denver International Airport dealt McCarran International Airport three delays and one cancellation on Sunday, airport spokeswoman Elaine Sanchez said.

The local delays were fewer than in other locations, given the relatively few outgoing flights headed for the Denver area, she said.

Pollen readings remained high to moderate for grasses and mulberry trees, the Clark County Department of Air Quality and Environmental Management reported on Thursday, its latest recording.

Grass pollens were recorded at high levels in Henderson and in the desert after all the rains Southern Nevada has received since December.

The highest mulberry tree pollen was recorded at Baskin Park on West Oakey Boulevard west of Rancho Drive last week.
