Pet stores push animal adoption
Local pet stores including Petland and Petco are participating in animal adoption programs.
Homeless pets can find new families at local Petland stores. The goal of Petland's Adopt-A-Pet program is to work with animal shelters, pet rescue groups and with members of the community to place accidental litters of puppies and kittens.
Before Petland accepts a homeless puppy or kitten for adoption, the pet must be at least eight weeks old and pass a wellness check by Petland's local consulting veterinarian.
Once accepted, Adopt-A-Pet at Petland are given their vaccinations and wormings. In most cases, they also are micro-chipped for identification and are spayed or neutered to end the overpopulation cycle. The pets are generally offered to customers at a modest adoption fee. For more information, visit www.petland.com.
Also, as part of Petco's ongoing mission to find homes for orphaned animals, Petco encourages customers to seek adoptable animals in the community as a first option, providing informational kiosks and in-store adoption opportunities to a larger variety of rescue organizations. The six stores in the Las Vegas area will participate in the eighth annual National Pet Adoption Saturday and Sunday to find homes for orphaned pets.
