Woman who allegedly left child in car pleads not guilty

A 26-year-old woman who allegedly left her 8-month-old daughter in her car so she could play video poker at a Las Vegas gas station pleaded not guilty to a felony charge of child endangerment this morning.

Christina Sarpy's car, which she had left running, was stolen with her child inside. A short time later the man who stole the car left the baby on a sidewalk a few blocks away.

Dorothy Orr, an 83-year-old grandmother, found Sarpy's baby girl as she was unloading groceries from her car on Minnesota Street at Nebraska Avenue.

A cashier at the Rebel/76 gas station at Decatur Boulevard and Washington Avenue said Sarpy had been playing video poker for 15 to 20 minutes on Aug. 28 before she realized her car had been stolen.

Sarpy's preliminary hearing is now set for Nov. 3 before Justice of the Peace Karen Bennett-Haron.
