An MRI revealed that backup tailback JaJa Riley suffered a torn MCL in Saturday night's 31-21 loss to Utah State that likely will require surgery, according to Rebels trainer Kyle Wilson.
"He is out for the year," UNLV coach John Robinson said. "We're going to get a second opinion, but he's out."
Riley, who was expected to play a key role in the Rebels backfield the rest of the season, rushed for 89 yards on 19 carries (4.7 avg.) in the first four games.
Robinson said that redshirt freshman wide receiver Marques Johnson is also out for the remainder of the season with a wrist injury.
Starting wide receiver Earvin Johnson took part in non-contact drills on Tuesday night after leaving the Utah State loss in the third quarter with a hip pointer.
Tight end Greg Estandia (knee) took part in full workouts for the first time since partially tearing his MCL on Aug. 26.
