Letter: Value of prayer is nonpartisan
Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004 | 9:03 a.m.
This is in response to Sun editor Brian Greenspun's Sept. 19 column headlined, "Mixing prayer, politics."
I concur completely that people of religious faith have the responsibility and wonderful opportunity to pray on a nonpartisan basis. Mary Baker Eddy, the founder of the international newspaper, The Christian Science Monitor, responded to the question, "What are your politics?" by writing, "I have none, in reality, other than to help support a righteous government, to love God supremely and my neighbor as myself."
I suggest this is a good starting point for nonpartisan prayer. I applaud Greenspun's courage in writing the column. It's a message that needs to be taken to heart.
