The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed a lawsuit today against Homewood, Ill.-based Graycor Industrial Constructors alleging a female carpenter was sexually harassed by her co-workers and managers at a company worksite in Primm.
The EEOC said in a news release that the lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court after exhausting efforts to resolve the dispute with the construction contractor. The worker said in the lawsuit she was subjected to touching, grabbing and rubbing by co-workers and managers on the construction site of the Bighorn power plant.
The lawsuit also alleges that the company failed to make corrective actions, and the EEOC is seeking compensatory and punitive damages.
Melissa Garcia, a company spokeswoman, said the company intends to fight the lawsuit.
"We are aware of the allegations; they are baseless and we intend to vigorously defend. Graycor Industrial Constructors has never been sued for any form of discrimination or harassment," Garcia said.
