Henderson planning Safety, Health Expo
Henderson fire and police agencies will present the 2004 Safety and Health Expo from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Horizon Town Center, Boulder Highway and Horizon Ridge Parkway.
The event will feature rescue vehicles, rescue personnel, voter registration booths, art projects for kids, personal document shredding by Shred-It, ROTC drill team performance, kids fingerprinting, Army National Guard climbing wall, and the Salvation Army food drive.
Admission is free and is open to the public.

Event brings adoptees, parents together
The 10th anniversary of International RegDay, the annual event that brings adoptees, birth parents and adoptive families together at sites around Nevada, will be held 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Borders Books, 1445 W. Sunset Road.
RegDay is a time when anyone touched by adoption can get information about the International Soundex Reunion Registry. Volunteers are on hand at each site to answer questions or assist interested adults register with the world's largest free adoption reunion service.

Library to host Family Literacy Day
The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District is hosting Family Literacy Day from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Rainbow Library Amphitheater, 3150 N. Buffalo Drive.
There will be crafts and activities for children, and a variety of organizations will provide information on programs and services to support families and children.

First Friday event set in Arts District
"First Friday Presented by Barrick Gaming Corp." will be celebrated from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday in the Arts District on Colorado Avenue between Third and Main streets.
The Arts District's 40-plus galleries, studios and eclectic shops will be open for the evening to welcome the public.
The street festival will feature San Jose musical groups Life With Jonas, Delta Activity and Day One Symphony; Los Angeles singer, songwriter and keyboardist Krister Axel; poets Paradox of Oakland, Calif., and Melissa Rose of Palo Alto, Calif.; and dancer Tiffany Glenn of the San Jose Ballet.

Museum exhibits Hart sculptures
The Las Vegas Art Museum will hold the preview of the "The Creative Spirit: The Sculptures of Frederick Hart" exhibition on Friday, in conjunction with a VIP dinner, lecture, concert and Creative Dessert Fantasy fund-raiser.
Tickets to the VIP dinner, lecture and concert are $500, and $50 tickets to the Creative Dessert Fantasy are both on sale at the museum, 9600 W. Sahara Ave., by calling 360-8000.
Christ Episcopal Church,
2000 S. Maryland Parkway, is hosting the Lobster Fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in the church's Parish Hall. Lunch will be available along with specialty and gift items for purchase, raffles and entertainment. Cost is $10; $12. Call 735-3633.

a valley-wide blood drive from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at the Trails Community Center, 1910 Spring Gate Lane, to benefit United Blood Services. Participants will enjoy Halloween decor, refreshments and music, and visits with Summerlin Sam, the community's mascot, who will be dressed in his favorite Halloween outfit. The Nevada Arts Council
will hold a free workshop from 9 a.m. to noon Monday at the Nevada State Museum and Historical Society in Lorenzi Park to discuss opportunities available to individual artists, arts organizations, public institutions, and nonprofit community groups through the agency's various programs.
