Letter: Iraq is front in war on terrorism
Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004 | 8:56 a.m.
So it is clear the Kerry campaign will try to distance the current Iraq conflicts from the war on terrorism. Obviously, since they are weak in the security department, this is considered a good strategy to focus on -- the weaknesses of conflict without seeming to be weak on waging a war on terrorism.
Unfortunately, every major leader in the world acknowledges terrorists are flooding into Iraq. We are no longer dealing with just Iraqis but rather Islamic fundamentalists from all over the region. So whether you believe the initial war on terrorism included Iraq, no reasonable person can deny that today it represents the frontlines of the war on terrorism!
So be it. At least it is giving us an opportunity for laser focus on our enemies and a front to fight far away from our homeland. There is no longer a war in Iraq, it is now our frontline in the bigger war on terrorism. Any other outlook has to be considered just spin.
