Man shot, killed in alley behind shopping center
Monday, Sept. 27, 2004 | 10:52 a.m.
A man was shot and killed this morning in an alley behind a shopping center on Twain Avenue near Swenson Avenue, Metro Police said.
People living in the 500 block of East Twain called police shortly after 5 a.m. after hearing gunshots, police said. Police arrived and found a man dead in the alley.
Neighbors told police they saw a man running from the area but were unable to describe him.
Police had blocked off the alley with yellow crime scene tape and were gathering evidence this morning.
A neighbor who refused to give his name said he was awakened by the sound of two gunshots. Shootings in this area aren't unusual, he said.
The last shooting in the 500 block of East Twain was about 4:30 a.m. June 26. The victim in that shooting suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
"You get used to it," the neighbor said, while standing outside his apartment across the street. "We need more police around here. I think this is the worst area in Vegas right here."
