Casinos recruit workers in Asia, South America

UNCASVILLE, Conn. -- The state's two casinos are looking to South America and South Korea for food and beverage workers as well as some service jobs.
Foxwoods Resort Casino and the Mohegan Sun Casino have sent executives to Sao Paulo, Brazil and will take a trip to South Korea to interview student workers.
Both casinos hired Brazilian students last winter to fill positions in food and beverage and hospitality departments. Mohegan Sun brought in South Koreans as intermediate, master and line cooks.
Foxwoods executives are recruiting Korean college students for the first time.
"We have difficulty filling those positions within the local market," said JoAnn Frank, Foxwoods vice president of human resources.
The casinos will bring in 25 to 40 students from Korea, who should start working at the casinos in late November or early December.
"They can cook a variety of items," Kevin Bogle, vice president of human resources for Mohegan Sun, said. "They work in food courts, buffets and the main kitchen."
