Letter: Some fees needed at public schools

Monday, Sept. 20, 2004 | 9:07 a.m.

This is in response to the Sept. 13 letter by Russ Lewis headlined, "High school fees are out of line." He was upset about the fees associated with some courses offered in the Clark County public high schools.

Sad to say, but the fees must be paid to cover the high costs of materials used in the class and to cover the costs of materials for those students who refuse to pay or cannot pay.

Who else should pay the costs? The taxpayer? My taxes have gone up enough this year. Why should I have to pay for materials used by someone else's child? If students or parents do not want to pay the fees, there are plenty of classes available without them, such as math, reading, English, foreign language and history.
