Letter: Bush has hurt workers, seniors
Monday, Sept. 20, 2004 | 9:08 a.m.
President Bush is putting the squeeze on the people struggling to make ends meet. This time he's putting a whopping 17 percent increase on Medicare premiums. The increased premium will cost seniors and people with disabilities in Nevada $35.6 million more next year for visits to their doctors.
When given the choice of helping seniors and the middle class, or giving huge additional profits to drug companies and HMOs or his other special-interest groups, he chooses the big, powerful special-interest groups every time.
Who profits? Certainly not America's seniors, the disabled or the hard working middle class. It's the health insurance industry, which will get a big premium increase amounting to an extra $139 billion in corporate profits.
George Bush has shown time after time that he is only looking out for the rich. He has insulted the seniors and the hard-working middle-class families and has made health care unaffordable to those who need it most.
George Bush wants another four years to bankrupt the country. We must send him back to Crawford, Texas, before it's too late.
