College Football Today

-Maurice Drew, UCLA, ran for a school-record 322 yards and five touchdowns in the Bruins' 37-31 victory over Washington.

-Darren Sproles, Kansas State, rushed for a team-record 292 yards on 38 carries, breaking his own mark, to lead Kansas State past Louisiana-Lafayette 40-20.

Andrew Walter, Arizona State, threw five touchdown passes, breaking Jake Plummer's record, as the Sun Devils routed No. 16 Iowa 44-7. Walter was 31-of-43 for 428 yards and has 11 TD passes this year and 66 in his career, one more than Plummer.

-James Wilhoit, Tennessee, kicked a 50-yard field goal with 6 seconds left to give the Vols a a 30-28 victory over Florida.

-Adrian Peterson, Oklahoma, ran for 183 yards and two touchdowns in his third straight 100-yard game, leading the second-ranked Sooners to a 31-7 victory over Oregon.

-Devin Hester, Miami, returned two punts for scores in the No. 4 Hurricanes' 48-0 win over Louisiana Tech.

-Wali Lundy, Virginia, ran for three touchdowns for the third straight game to help No. 12 Virginia rout Akron 51-0.

-Braylon Edwards, Michigan, caught eight passes for 130 yards and two touchdowns to lead No. 17 Michigan past San Diego State 24-21. Edwards passed Marquise Walker to become Michigan's career leading receiver.

-Sonny Cumbie, Texas Tech, threw for 441 yards and four touchdowns in a 70-35 victory over TCU.

-Jared Zabransky, Boise State, completed 26 of 37 passes for 392 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Broncos to a 47-31 victory over UTEP, extending the nation's longest winning streak to 14 games.

-Troy Williamson, South Carolina, set a school record with 210 yards receiving and scored three touchdowns in a 34-3 victory over South Florida.

-Brad Smith, Missouri, passed for two touchdowns and ran for another, accounting for 296 yards in a 48-0 win over Ball State.

-Bruce Gradkowski, Toledo, threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more, leading Toledo to a 42-32 victory over Eastern Michigan.

-Tom Zbikowski, Notre Dame, returned a fumble 75 yards for a touchdown and set up another score with an interception in Notre Dame's 31-24 win over Michigan State.

RUNNING WILD

Maurice Drew became the 75th player in NCAA Division I-A history and the second this season with a 300-yard rushing game, racking up 322 yards on the ground in UCLA's 37-31 win over Washington. By halftime, he had 235 yards on 13 carries. Drew scored five touchdowns, also a school record and the most ever by one player against the Huskies. West Virginia's Kay-Jay Harris gained 337 yards rushing in a 56-23 win over East Carolina two weeks ago.

A LEG UP

Mike Nugent tied a school record with five field goals to give No. 9 Ohio State a 22-14 victory over North Carolina State. Bob Atha also kicked five field goals for the Buckeyes in 1981 against Indiana.

HALTING THE HERD

No. 3 Georgia held Marshall to 160 yards and seven first downs in the Bulldogs' 13-3 victory. More than one-third of the Thundering Herd's total yards came on their first play from scrimmage - a 57-yard pass that set up a 33-yard field goal.

RUNNING MATES

Marion Barber III and Laurence Maroney combined for 333 yards rushing to lead No. 22 Minnesota to a 34-16 victory over Colorado State. Barber ran for 201 yards and scored two touchdowns, Maroney added 132 yards.

PENN IS MIGHTIER

Penn extended the nation's longest Division I-AA winning streak to 17 games with a 61-18 win over San Diego. Penn, the two-time defending Ivy League champion, scored its most points since 1946.

SACK LUNCH

Florida State sacked UAB quarterback Darrell Hackney eight times in the No. 8 Seminoles' 34-7 victory. In addition to getting to Hackney for 54 yards in losses, Florida State limited UAB to 144 total yards and a minus-24 yards rushing.

SEASON-ENDING

Alabama lost starting quarterback Brodie Croyle to a season-ending knee injury early in the third quarter in the Crimson Tide's 52-0 victory over I-AA Western Carolina. Croyle was injured when he was tackled at the end of a short run with Alabama leading 31-0. Backup Mark Guillon, who led the Crimson Tide on two second-half touchdown drives, will take over the starting spot.

STREAKING

Navy won its first three games for the first time since 1979, beating Tulsa 29-0 on Saturday. It was Navy's first shutout since a 7-0 win over Lafayette in 1994. ... No. 15 Utah has won seven straight against Utah State after a 48-6 victory.

SNAPPED

No. 5 LSU had its 10-game winning streak snapped with a 10-9 loss at No. 14 Auburn. ... Temple snapped a nine-game losing streak with a 38-7 victory over Florida A&M. It was the first home victory for Temple at Lincoln Financial Field, where it went winless last season after the stadium opened. The Owls won at home for the first time since beating Syracuse at Veterans Stadium on Oct. 12, 2002.

SHUTOUTS

Akron finished its 51-0 loss to No. 12 Virginia with 84 yards in 58 plays and six first downs. Virginia led 34-0 at halftime, then held the Zips to 16 yards in the second half. ... Louisiana Tech's 48-0 loss to Miami was the first time Tech has been shut out since 1993, breaking a streak of 130 games. ... Villanova's 17-0 loss to James Madison was the Wildcats' first shutout since a 34-0 loss at New Hampshire in 1996, a span of 85 games.

SLUMPING

Arizona lost to a nationally ranked team for the 16th straight time, 9-7 to No. 20 Wisconsin. ... After a 13-3 loss to Georgia, Marshall has lost its first three games for the first time under nine-year coach Bob Pruett. ... Holy Cross lost its 13th consecutive game, 35-0 to Harvard, setting a school record. The old record of 12 losses was set during the 1968-70 seasons. ... SMU's 59-7 loss to Oklahoma State was the Mustangs' 15th straight defeat dating to the start of last season. SMU has the nation's second longest losing streak, one behind Army.

TWO-FER

With a 30-28 win, No. 13 Tennessee won back-to-back games over No. 11 Florida for the first time since 1970-71.

MAINE MEN

Maine beat Mississippi State 9-7 in the Black Bears' first game against a Division I-A opponent since 1991.

SPEAKING

"(There) couldn't possibly be a bigger relief than that little yellow thing on the ground." - Auburn kicker John Vaughn. After Courtney Taylor's touchdown tied the game at 9, Vaughn's first PAT attempt went wide left. But Ronnie Prude was called for a personal foul, giving Auburn another shot. Vaughn made his second attempt and Auburn hung on to beat No. 5 LSU 10-9.
