Girl, 15, wounded in home invasion

Friday, Sept. 17, 2004 | 10:49 a.m.

A 15-year-old girl who was home alone with two other girls was shot in the leg early this morning by a man who burst into their northeast Las Vegas condominium, Metro Police said.

The shooting occurred about 2:30 a.m. at the gated, guarded Spring Pointe townhouse complex in the 3700 block of Shirebrook Drive, near North Pecos Road and Las Vegas Boulevard North.

The 15-year-old girl and two others, ages 13 and 2, were asleep in the home when a man kicked in the front door and fired at least two shots through a wall and then fled, Officer Mike Blasko, police spokesman, said.

A bullet hit the 15-year-old in the leg, he said, inflicting a minor injury. She was taken to University Medical Center along with the 2-year-old, who cut her foot on broken glass, police said. They were expected to be released from the hospital today.

The 13-year-old was not injured, police said.

Police are investigating whether charges should be filed against the adult occupant of the condominium for leaving the girls home alone.
