Letter: Kerry’s service is more admirable
Friday, Sept. 10, 2004 | 8:59 a.m.
I don't care if John Kerry's Purple Heart injury only needed a Band-Aid, nor do I care if his boat was under fire or not. He's a four-year Navy veteran who voluntarily went to Vietnam, where he served his country and his crew as millions of other patriots have done. He then came home and risked publicly speaking out against the war so that the lives of thousands of draftees and other volunteers might be saved.
He did not get five deferments, as Vice President Dick Cheney did, nor did he disregard orders to report for a medical exam, as Bush did while serving in the National Guard. That is all the truth I need to hear.
