Houston point guard commits to Rebels

Steve Guiremand

UNLV coach Lon Kruger picked up a very key commitment for his recruiting class Tuesday night when highly touted point guard Jo' Van Adams of Gulf Shore Academy in Houston committed to the Rebels over Arkansas.

A lightning quick 6-foot-1, 180-pounder, Adams was considered by most scouts to be one of the top five point guards in the country.

"I think he's the kind of point guard that Lon Kruger can really build his program around," respected talent scout Bob Gibbons of Hoopmasters.com said. "He has good quickness, can score inside or out, and is an excellent shooter. I think he's one of top 'real' point guards in this class. He has the ability to score but looks to pass first and is a good floor leader."

Hoopmasters.com rated Adams as the nation's 54th best prep prospect.

Adams is the third player to commit to Kruger this year joining 6-foot-7 wing forward Joe Darger of Riverton, Utah, ranked the nation's 68th-best player by Hoopmasters.com, and 6-foot-8 forward/center Gaston Essengue of Compton (Calif.) Junior College.
