Fred Assan

Fred Assan, 56, of Laughlin and Tustin, Calif., died Friday in Laughlin. A transportation engineer, he was born Feb. 14, 1948, in Iran.

He is survived by his wife, Jela; and one son, Sahm Assan of Tustin.

No local services are scheduled. Burial will be in Tustin. Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

Thomas W. Atkinson

Thomas W. Atkinson, 72, of North Las Vegas died Friday in North Las Vegas. He was born Oct. 1, 1931, in Astoria, N.Y. A resident for 39 years, he was a retired Air Force staff sergeant, Korean War and Vietnam War veteran, a colonel in the Confederate Air Force, a member of the Civil Air Patrol and Experimental Aircraft Association 163.

He is survived by two daughters, Lena Myers and Carol Hewitt; one son, Eddy Atkinson; one sister, Agnes Hydro; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 2-7 p.m. today and Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Graveside services will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

The family suggests donations to the Confederate Air Force Association.

Claudine Bowden

Claudine Bowden, 70, of Henderson died Friday in a local hospital. She was born March 5, 1934, in Roosevelt, Utah. A resident for 42 years, she was a retired sales clerk.

She is survived by one daughter, Becky Church of Henderson; one son, Steven Bowden of Las Vegas; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 5-7 p.m. Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Palm Chapel, Henderson. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Park, Henderson.

Ronald R. Centano

Ronald R. Centano, 58, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born Sept. 20, 1945, in Chicago. A resident for 18 years, he was a professional gambler and a Vietnam War Army veteran.

He is survived by his companion, Gayle Ryff, his mother, Carol Centano, and one sister, Roseanne Barnette, all of Las Vegas; and one brother, Robert Centano of Chicago.

A memorial service was scheduled at 11 a.m. today in Affordable Cremation and Burial Service, 2457 N. Decatur Blvd.

James T. Cook Sr.

James T. Cook Sr., 62, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born Dec. 4, 1941, in Lake Providence, La. A resident for 41 years, he was a retired shipping and receiving clerk.

He is survived by one daughter, Jeannine C. Jones, and his former wife, Lerner Davis, both of New Orleans; three sisters, Mary Cook Westby of Spring Creek and Mary Ellen Pippins and Lenola Cook Smith, both of Las Vegas; one brother, Jesse Oneal Cook of Las Vegas; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 2-7 p.m. Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Palm Chapel, Main.

Phyllis Maxine Cowdery

Phyllis Maxine Cowdery, 66, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. She was born June 17, 1938, in Grants Pass, Ore. A resident for 18 years, she was a retired sales clerk.

She is survived by her husband, David; two daughters, Val Cosgrove of Hugo, Ore., and April Hulbert of Las Vegas; two sons, Russell Neill of Grand Ronde, Ore., and Craig Hulbert of Grants Pass; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Affordable Cremation and Burial Service, 2457 N. Decatur Blvd., is handling arrangements.

Samuel C. Freeman Jr.

Samuel C. Freeman Jr., 82, of Searchlight died Saturday in a local hospice. He was born Dec. 27, 1921, in Vandalia, Ill. A resident for 36 years, he was a retired electrical engineer, a minister at Searchlight Bible Church, a World War II Army Air Corps veteran, a former officer and lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Searchlight Post and a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; three daughters, Linda Weems of Grants Pass, Ore., Karon G. Menicucci of Daly City, Calif., and Pamela L. Martin of Pratt, Kan.; one son, Ronnie L. Freeman of Florida; two stepdaughters, Sharon Schocker of Salt Lake City and Lavonne Schocker of Las Vegas; two stepsons, Jim Hall of Orange County, Calif., and Jerry Hall of Magalia, Calif.; one sister, Eulaia Struck of California; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled one hour prior to a 2 p.m. service Thursday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

Rodolfo A. Gallardo

Rodolfo A. Gallardo, 77, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born Sept. 1, 1927, in Cuba. A resident for five years, he was a self-employed contractor.

He is survived by his wife, Olga; one son, Robert Gallardo, and one daughter, Cindy Gallardo, both of Las Vegas.

No local services are scheduled. Burial will be in California. Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

Ed Gregory

Ed Gregory, 69, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born May 19, 1935, in Brooklyn, N.Y. A resident for seven years, he was a retired senior vice president at a chemical company.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline; one daughter, Linda Smith of Staten Island, N.Y.; one son, Charles Gregory of East Brunswick, N.J.; and four grandchildren.

Philip Honek

Philip Honek, 84, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospice. He was born April 13, 1920, in Los Angeles. A resident for 26 years, he was a retired ticket clerk in the horse racing industry, a World War II Army veteran, a member of Disabled American Veterans Las Vegas 11, Disabled American Veterans Commanders Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion Post 271 and Las Vegas Country Club.

He is survived by his wife, Donna; one daughter, Patricia Bonin of Squamish, British Columbia; one brother, Milton Honek of Las Vegas; and four grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in King David Memorial Chapel and Cemetery, 2697 Eldorado Lane.

Sara Jessel

Sara Jessel, 61, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospice. She was born Nov. 23, 1942, in Morgantown, W.Va. A resident for 41 years, she was a retired motel auditor.

She is survived by one son, Christopher Hildebrand, and one daughter, Michelle Bogue, both of Las Vegas; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.

Louise Johnson

Louise Johnson, 87, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospice. She was born Nov. 24, 1916, in New York City. A resident for 12 years, she was a retired Stardust and Fremont waitress and a 20-year hospital volunteer.

She is survived by three daughters, Shirley Dixon of Delaware, Gail Gaffney of New York and Joran Sturges of Las Vegas; and 13 grandchildren.

John Richard Murray

John Richard Murray, 62, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospice. A retired hospitality director, he was born Oct. 5, 1941, in Coffeyville, Kan.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis L.; one daughter, Lisa Scott of Coffeyville; one son, Jon Eric Murray of Oswego, Kan.; his father, John C. Murray of Carlsbad, Calif.; his mother, Evelyn Phillips, and two brothers, Stephen Murray and Roger Phillips, all of Coffeyville; two sisters, Patricia Wong of Tulsa, Okla., and Teresa Hare of Coffeyville; and five grandchildren.

Pending services will be at University United Methodist Church, 4412 S. Maryland Parkway. Affordable Cremation and Burial Service, 2457 N. Decatur Blvd., is handling arrangements.

Toinette Russo

Toinette Russo, 42, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. She was born Oct. 15, 1961, in Cleveland. A resident for eight years, she was a registered nurse.

She is survived by one daughter, Helaina A. Russo of Las Vegas.

Visitation is scheduled 9 a.m. until a 5 p.m. service Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.

Sabrina Marie Schwai

Sabrina Marie Schwai, 23, of Henderson died Wednesday in Henderson. She was born Nov. 9, 1980, in Wisconsin. A resident for nine years, she was a casino cocktail waitress.

She is survived by her father, Robert Schwai of West Bend, Wis.; and her mother and stepfather, Jannice and John Julian of Las Vegas.

Wilma E. Starnes

Wilma E. Starnes, 63, of Laughlin died Saturday in Las Vegas. She was born Oct. 27, 1940, in Kingsport, Tenn. A resident for five years, she was a grocery store cashier.

She is survived by two nieces, Martha Ferguson of Valley Center, Kan., and Nancy Coronado of Fullerton, Colo.
