Letter: Student interests lost in pettiness

This is in reference to the Sun's Aug. 30 story about the memo sent by interim Chancellor Jim Rogers to the regents and presidents of our colleges and universities, asking them to stop warring with each other.

The fights will continue until presidents and regents stop being rewarded for their bad behavior. The Legislature, alumni and voters have routinely rewarded those with the worst behavior with re-election, retention, new buildings, new programs, new colleges, new parking garages or whatever.

Infighting costs the taxpayers every year in waste, duplication, travel and lobbying. Instead of such behavior, the central focus of each campus should be providing our students with the best higher education value possible.

Wake up, Nevadans, it is your money they are spending on the petty battle.
