Cirque will host benefit run-walk

Cirque du Soleil will host the fourth annual Run Away with Cirque du Soleil 5k run and 1-mile fun walk beginning with a warmup at 7:30 a.m. Monday at Paseo Verde Park in Henderson, to benefit the Center for Independent Living.

Entertainment will be provided by Cirque du Soleil performers and musicians. Massage therapy, face painting for children and free food and beverages also will be available.

Chipotle heats up local blood drives

United Blood Services will join with Chipotle Mexican Grill for a two-week blood drive starting on Monday and running through Sept. 20 at Chipotle, 4530 S. Maryland Parkway.

To help motivate potential donors, Chipotle will provide a coupon for a free gourmet burrito or order of tacos for anyone who visits one of United Blood Services' five Las Vegas-area offices to donate blood.

Prospective donors should make an appointment in advance with their nearest United Blood Services office by calling 233-9620.

Benefit golf set for Angel Park

Registration for the inaugural Marriott Las Vegas Charity Golf Tournament will begin at 11 a.m Thursday, followed by a shotgun start at 1 p.m. at Angel Park Golf Club, 100 S. Rampart Blvd., to benefit Children's Miracle Network and Candlelighters for Childhood Cancer of Southern Nevada.

Children's Miracle Network raises funds for children's hospitals across North America to provide the finest care, research and community outreach to help children with diseases and injuries of every kind.

Red Rock photo contest scheduled

Friends of Red Rock Canyon, in partnership with the Bureau of Land Management and Red Rock Canyon Interpretive Association, is sponsoring the third annual photo contest.

The theme will be "Nature and Wildlife of the Mojave Desert, Scenery, and Cultural Resources of Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area."

Entries will be accepted at Red Rock Canyon Visitors Center from 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Sept. 11 and 12 only.

The five categories are:

Children: Ages 3 to 12 (color)

High School: Ages 13 to 18 (color)

General: This category must be color nature/wildlife digital or prints with the truth of the photo statement maintained

Creative: Allows for any alteration of normal color photograph procedures

Black and White: All nature/wildlife digital or film prints will be judged equally (no age restrictions)

All photo entries will be on display at the George Federal Building from Sept. 14 through Oct. 14.
