Letter: Precious rights worth the fight
Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004 | 8:57 a.m.
In his Nov. 9 letter, Randall Buie wrote "God help this country" right after denouncing the human zygote as a "dash of protoplasm." He went on to denounce the war to protect American freedom and life from wicked leaders such as Saddam Hussein and groups such as the Islamists. He said it is an "unwarranted war."
So we should rewrite the laws of science so that when a sperm cell and an egg unite there is no creation of life? Just a dash of protoplasm containing no DNA structure? And let's travel back in history, and denounce the Civil War and World War II as "unwarranted wars." These wars were fought to preserve freedom.
Mr. Buie sounds as if he would have had us leave Saddam alone while he continued building his arsenal and gassing Iranians, Kurds and soon Americans.
How dare he ask God to help this country when he criticizes the fight to protect our freedoms and the rights of the unborn!
