S&P 500 index rises

The Standard & Poor's 500 Index rose to its highest close in more than three years on Thursday, led by a decline in oil prices and the Federal Reserve's statement that the U.S. economy and labor market are improving. The S&P 500 index added 10.57, or 0.9 percent, to 1173.48.
