SUN WASHINGTON BUREAU
WASHINGTON -- Clark County's new veterans hospital stands to gain $60 million to pay for its design and purchase of land, based on an announcement made by Veterans Administration Secretary Anthony Principi Friday.
Principi listed the Las Vegas project as one of department's top priorities for funding through 2010.
Congress already had approved $25 million for the hospital and the additional $60 million will come straight from the VA, according to Nevada's congressional delegation. The money comes from funds set aside for new projects the VA anticipated.
Principi visited Las Vegas earlier this month to announce that Las Vegas will get a new nursing home, hospital and outpatient clinic for veterans as part of a system-wide reorganization of health care facilities.
