Rodman's DUI hearing delayed
Former NBA star Dennis Rodman's pretrial hearing on drunken driving charges was delayed Monday.
During a brief hearing before Municipal Judge George Assad, a pretrial hearing date was rescheduled for April 19 . At that time Assad will determine if there is enough evidence to proceed to trial.
Rodman's local attorney, Karen Winckler, attended the hearing, but Rodman did not.
Rodman, 42, faces multiple charges, including DUI, reckless driving and obstructing a police officer, in connection with a motorcycle crash outside Treasures, a local strip club, in October.
Authorities say Rodman was driving under the influence of alcohol when he crashed a borrowed motorcycle into a pole outside the club on Westwood Drive, near Rancho Drive and Sahara Avenue.
Rodman was thrown off the motorcycle, suffering cuts to both legs. He was treated at University Medical Center and released.
Man slain on his balcony
A 35-year-old man was shot and killed while standing on the second-floor balcony of an apartment at Laguna Brisas, 1800 N. Decatur Blvd., shortly before 8 p.m. Monday, Metro Police said.
The man, whose identity had not been released this morning, was talking on a telephone when he was shot in the head, apparently by someone on a nearby walkway.
Neighbors told police they heard about four gunshots about 7:45 p.m. People also reported hearing a car speeding away from the apartment complex near Decatur and Lake Mead boulevards, police said.
Police did not have a description of the vehicle nor a suspect, however. They said there is no apparent motive for the slaying. Anyone with information about this case can call Crime Stoppers at 385-5555 or homicide detectives at 229-3521.
Man found dead at Lake Mead ID'd
The dead man discovered in Lake Mead on March 25 has been identified as 43-year-old John Schultz of California.
Another lake visitor, Jim Rulison, discovered the body.
The cause of death had not been released by the coroner's office as of this morning.
NLV slaying suspect arrested
A 24-year-old suspect sought in the killing of a North Las Vegas man was arrested at a convenience store early this morning after a five-day manhunt, police said.
Jim Holden was taken into custody just after midnight at a 7-Eleven at Pecos and Gowan roads by Metro Police, Officer Tim Bedwell, North Las Vegas Police spokesman, said.
Holden was booked into the North Las Vegas Detention Center on a murder charge. He is being held without bond.
Holden and 27-year-old Jerry Salas are suspected in the killing of 34-year-old Gerardo Ojeda-Garcia in an apartment at 3301 Civic Center Drive. Ojeda-Garcia was found shot "execution style" Wednesday.
Salas was arrested Thursday.
Police found a gun believed to be the murder weapon, a high-caliber rifle. The homicide was possibly drug-related, Bedwell said.
Bail set in threat to mansion
Bail has been set at $100,000 for a Carson City man accused of threatening to place a bomb at the Governor's Mansion in Carson City.
David Allen Clary Sr., 47, was arrested at a motel after the incident Saturday night. No one was hurt.
According to police reports, a state employee received a call that night from a man who said his daughter had been accosted in the neighborhood near the mansion and complained about a lack of safety.
He allegedly twice told the state employee that it would be easy to leave a bomb.
The call was traced through caller identification to a Carson City motel, where Clary was arrested and booked on charges of making terrorist and bomb threats, authorities said.
