As a frequent visitor to Las Vegas since 1974, I have seen a slow but steady decline in the city's appeal. I probably have visited for the last time.
When it takes more than an hour to find a cab from the airport, when the wait times often approach that level in casino-to-casino visits, and when parents insist on lugging toddlers with their various appliances, strollers and bundles through smoke-filled gambling parlors, and when reveling drunks are allowed -- even encouraged -- to yell and whistle at the passing crowds, then it's time to seek friendlier climes.
There seems to be an inverse ratio at work here; the larger and more elegant the hotels, the uglier and louder and more rude the guests.
