Letter: Cabs should have cameras
Wednesday, March 17, 2004 | 8:46 a.m.
Jeff German's column on March 12 about the Taxicab Authority's kowtowing to cab company owners was right on the money. An authority member stated cameras in cabs might hurt tourism. This was one of the most ridiculous remarks ever uttered by someone who should know better.
Cameras are everywhere in this country, probably more so in Las Vegas because of the gaming industry. If someone is afraid to get into a cab equipped with a camera, then they should be afraid to walk into a hotel, casino, convenience store or just about any public building.
Just what does this board member think the cabbies will do with the images from their cameras? Send pictures to their customers' wives back home? What nonsense. If there is something that can be done to make someone's job safer (as cameras have already been shown to do), then why isn't it embraced?
Greed, that's why.
