Nicholas, former assemblyman, dies

RENO -- A celebration of life will be held Saturday in Reno for former four-term Assemblyman David Nicholas, who died on Feb. 27 after a lengthy illness.
Nicholas, who had lived the last five years in Surprise, Ariz., was 74.
Nicholas was a news director for a Reno television station before former Gov. Mike O'Callaghan appointed him to be state comprehensive health planner. Nicholas later became executive director of the Nevada Health Care Association.
He was elected as a Republican to the Assembly in 1980, representing Reno.
Survivors include his wife Kay Lee; children Randy, Scott, Lisa, David, Steven, Kristina and Mary Suzanne; sister, Nancy Wengert and 12 grandchildren.
